Super Short Google Search Quality Rant – ExpressionEngine User Roles

So I use ExpressionEngine every day at work, and occasionally (all the time) I have to Google how to do certain things.

I haven’t done a ton with User Roles recently so I did a little search to see what I could do to extend certain permissions. Ugh. Just look at the screen shots. This is not my first Poor Search Results rant and it won’t be the last, I’m sure.

So Google thinks I need a website from a firm in New York?

So I try again…

another bad screen shot

"Ohhhhh you want to install EE ..."

Actually, no Google, I don’t need a website from New York. I also don’t need to know how to install ExpressionEngine. I need to know about EE’s user roles. That’s why I searched for it.

It’s getting old. This is why a lot of people including myself are playing with Blekko and DuckDuckgo and also why Google’s market share just dropped again.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Google’s products. I would hate to live in a world without Gmail, Analytics, Adwords, or YouTube (in other words, I don’t want to travel back in time to 1990).

Anyways… rant over. Please get it together Google. For me? Please?

Amazing Post By Will Critchlow at Distilled

If you haven’t seen this yet, you really should. Let me state clearly that I have no political opinion here and that is not the purpose of this post or his.

What you should take away from this is the following:
Presentation. Awesome use of slideshare to produce easily consumed and very branded content (notice the Greeen?).
And of course the content. Really amazing to see what malicious techies can do online.

Without further ado here is the link: Black hat politics: online dirty tricks. I hope you learn something (and not run screaming but rather be prepared). Enjoy!
